Red Castle Inn . Nevada City, California

Entrance to Red Castle InnCapturing the essence and elegance of the late 19th century.

Our Clientele

Among our guests you will meet romance seekers of all ages, first time B and B travelers, many European visitors, foodies (food enthusiasts) Victoriana, history, antique buffs, “time travelers” and book lovers.

Focusing on local history, great books, opulent antique furnishings, innovative imaginative food, and innkeepers that are attentive without being intrusive.

Bedrooms
Seven air-conditioned rooms and suites with queen or double beds all with private baths/showers (some with tubs and our special bubble bath too) and verandas, authentically reflect the original style and furnishing of the four-story mansion.

Breakfast
Our academy-trained professional chef serves a lavish, daily changing six course menu presented buffet style in the late 19th century fashion in the foyer at 8:30, (early special Red Castle blend coffee at 7:30) , featuring a variety of palate-pleasing and imaginative choices inspired by historical menus and not found elsewhere. You may choose to return with your selections to the privacy of your own room, to dine al fresco on your covered veranda, or join other guests in the parlor, the main veranda, or at tables in the gardens.

Common Areas
You may join others to converse, read or relax in the book filled main floor parlor any time and for conversation, tea and chef's special sweets at 5PM (upon request.) The third and top floors have private parlors and verandas with tables to enjoy beverages and views of town. The surrounding terraced gardens have many inviting conversation areas, as well.

Red Castle Inn entryBuilding and Grounds
The legendary brick landmark Gothic Revival mansion erected in 1860 on Prospect Hill as “the most prominent and ornamental building in town” named “The Red Castle” by the townspeople – it was the only four story building – became the premiere Bed and Breakfast lodging in Nevada City after being restored to its original beauty in 1960. The Inn has been awarded the “California Grand Hotel Best Bed and Breakfast Inn” by travel writers statewide and is considered by many to be the epitome of B and B’s. Acclaimed nationally for “its strong sense of time and place” the Inn’s singular style inspired GOURMET magazine to say “would top my list of places to stay in the Gold Country, nothing else quite compares with it.” Surrounded by a lush forest and the soothing sounds of the fountains you may meander on winding pathways through the rustic shady gardens and find secluded nooks perhaps a deer or three, certainly birds and squirrels and our colorful koi...

Other Amenities

Unsurpassed views of town, hills, sunset on four levels, private off street parking, private verandas, a selection of antique books in each room, feather beds, down comforters, turn down service, triple sheeting (they did that in the 19th century) other bathroom niceties, and you will feel today like guests in the original Williams' family home did more than a century ago.

Location
In an unparalleled fairytale setting in the Historical District on the edge of downtown, just a few footsteps from shops, dining, theater, public swimming and tennis, musical events in the park and all the exciting events the quaint village has to offer.
